A
unique and hugely successful event was held at the Palestinian
Club held that was dedicated to the art of storytelling &
the survival of the Palestinian people. Elders from Sydney's
Palestinian community gathered to share their memories about
Al Nakba, the Catastrophe of 1948. The event was open to everyone.
Younger generations engaged with parts of their heritage that
have been excluded from the history books for several decades.
This oral history relates to a time, 54 years ago, when 750,
000 Palestinians were forced to leave crops, homes & livelihoods
to escape the violent establishment of the State of Israel
upon Palestinian soil. Al Nakba is continuing today.
Arab artists came to this day & were inspired to create
an art work based upon Al Nakba. Selected works are part of
the "I Remember 1948" exhibition to be held in May
15 2003, at The
Performance Space.
